How likes shape a post on X
X shows likes, reposts, replies and views under each post. Likes are the most common reaction and the one readers glance at first. A thoughtful thread with 3 likes looks ignored; with a few hundred, it looks like part of the conversation. Since X made likes private in your profile tab, the count under the post itself has become the main public trace of approval.
Engagement in the first hour after posting also influences how far X shows a post in the For You timeline.
Choosing a quantity
- 100 to 300 likes: for a regular post on a small or mid-size account.
- 500 likes: the default, for announcements, threads and launches.
- 1,000 to 10,000: for large accounts or posts already gaining traction.
Likes should stay consistent with views. If your post needs reach too, add X views in the same cart.
