How to improve it

01Post when your audience is onlineCheck your followers’ active hours in Insights and post just before.
02Give people a reason to savePractical carousels, lists, tutorials: useful content gets saved and reshared.
03Reply within the first hourReplying quickly to comments keeps the conversation going while the post is most visible.

How is the engagement rate calculated?

The engagement rate measures the share of your followers who interact with a post. Add up the average interactions per post, then divide by the number of followers.

On Instagram, we count likes and comments. On TikTok, we add shares and saves, which are more frequent on the platform.

The rate naturally drops as follower count grows: that’s why it should be compared with accounts of the same size.

FAQ

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

It depends on account size. The table above gives benchmarks by follower range; a small account usually has a higher rate than a big one.

Should views be counted?

No. Views are not interactions. This calculation uses likes, comments and, for TikTok, shares and saves.

How many posts should I use?

Your last 10 to 12, excluding sponsored or exceptional posts, for a representative average.

Why does my rate drop as I gain followers?

Some new followers see fewer of your posts. That’s why the rate is compared with accounts of the same size.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser; nothing is sent or kept.
